Jammu, October 22: Jammu and Kashmir Police have recovered 804 grams of heroin and 1.114 kilograms of opium from the Talhar area of Arnia sector in Jammu district, uncovering a suspected cross-border narcotics smuggling network allegedly linked to drone-dropping incidents. The recovery was made under Operation Sanjeevani, as police intensified efforts to dismantle drug trafficking networks operating near the International Border.

According to reports, preliminary investigations indicate that drones may have been used to transport narcotics from across the border into Indian territory. Police are now working to establish the source of the seized consignment, identify its intended recipients and trace other individuals suspected of being involved in the network.

Investigation Began After Narcotics-Related Information

The case came to light on October 20, when Police Station R.S. Pura received information concerning the alleged consumption of narcotics by a 26-year-old man, Sunny Kumar, a resident of Kotli Mirdian in Suchetgarh tehsil of Jammu district.

Police registered a case under relevant provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and initiated an investigation. During questioning and subsequent investigation, officials reportedly uncovered leads pointing towards his alleged involvement in a narcotics smuggling module connected to a drone-dropping incident.

Acting on these leads, a police team led by the Station House Officer of R.S. Pura conducted further investigation, resulting in the recovery of the heroin and opium consignment from the Talhar area of Arnia sector.

Cross-Border Smuggling Network Under Scanner

The seizure has raised concerns about the suspected use of unmanned aerial vehicles to transport illegal drugs across the International Border. Such methods can make it difficult for security agencies to detect and intercept contraband before it reaches its intended recipients.

Police are examining both the backward and forward linkages of the suspected smuggling network. Investigators are attempting to establish where the drugs originated, who was expected to receive them and whether additional individuals or organised groups were involved.

The investigation will also seek to determine whether the suspected network has connections with other narcotics trafficking activities in the border region.

Focus on Combating Narco-Terrorism

Drug trafficking along border areas remains a significant concern for law enforcement agencies because illegal narcotics networks can exploit vulnerable communities and contribute to organised criminal activity. Authorities have repeatedly highlighted the need for coordinated action, intelligence gathering and stronger surveillance to counter such threats.

The latest recovery represents another development in efforts to curb suspected drone-assisted drug smuggling in Jammu district. However, the alleged cross-border links and the involvement of other individuals remain subjects of investigation.

Police have stated that further investigation is underway to establish the complete chain of the trafficking network and identify everyone involved. The allegations against any individual will ultimately be determined through the legal process.
