Polish Prime Minister to Meet PM Modi

NEW DELHI, October 22: Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk are holding high-level bilateral talks in New Delhi on Thursday, October 22, as India and Poland seek to strengthen their strategic partnership, expand economic cooperation and deepen collaboration in defence, technology and renewable energy.
Tusk arrived in India on October 22 for an official visit scheduled from October 21 to 23, at the invitation of Prime Minister Modi. The visit marks an important diplomatic engagement between the two countries, whose relations were elevated to a Strategic Partnership during Modi’s visit to Poland in August 2024.
According to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), the two leaders are reviewing the full spectrum of bilateral relations and exchanging views on regional and global developments of mutual interest.
Defence and Technology Cooperation on Agenda
Defence cooperation is expected to be a major focus of the discussions. Both countries are exploring opportunities to strengthen industrial partnerships, promote technology sharing and expand cooperation in defence manufacturing.
Poland has expressed interest in increasing defence-related trade with India and encouraging collaboration between companies from both countries. Such partnerships could create opportunities for joint production, industrial development and stronger supply chains.
Emerging technologies, information technology, space, digital innovation and renewable energy are also among the key areas identified for closer engagement. The discussions are expected to support wider cooperation between Indian and Polish businesses, research institutions and technology companies.
Business Delegation to Explore Investment Opportunities
Tusk is accompanied by Poland’s Minister of Finance and Economy, Andrzej Domanski, along with a large business delegation. An India-Poland Business Forum is scheduled in New Delhi on October 22, followed by another engagement in Bengaluru on October 23.
The forums aim to connect businesses, identify investment opportunities and encourage partnerships across sectors. Bengaluru, a major Indian technology hub, will provide an opportunity for Polish representatives to interact with stakeholders from the information technology and space industries.
Strengthening India-European Union Relations
The visit also carries significance for broader India-European Union relations. Closer cooperation between New Delhi and Warsaw could support economic engagement, investment flows and coordination on shared international priorities.
The two countries are seeking to build on the five-year Joint Action Plan for 2024–2028, which provides a framework for advancing cooperation across several strategic and economic sectors.
A New Chapter in Bilateral Relations
Tusk’s visit is expected to provide fresh momentum to India-Poland relations, with both sides looking to translate diplomatic commitments into practical outcomes.
Greater cooperation in defence, trade, innovation, clean energy, education and cultural exchanges could create new opportunities for businesses and strengthen ties between the two countries.
The outcomes of the talks and business engagements will be important in determining the next phase of the India-Poland Strategic Partnership.
