Veteran BJP Leader L.K. Advani Hospitalised in Delhi With Chest Infection, Condition Stable

New Delhi, October 17, 2026: Veteran Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and former Deputy Prime Minister Lal Krishna Advani has been admitted to Indraprastha Apollo Hospital in New Delhi after developing a chest infection. The 98-year-old leader is receiving medical treatment, and his condition has been reported as stable, according to hospital officials.
Advani was admitted to the hospital’s pulmonary department on Friday evening, October 16, at around 7:30 pm. Doctors are monitoring his health and conducting necessary medical investigations. Reports published on Saturday said he remains under close medical observation.
Union Health Minister and senior BJP leader J.P. Nadda visited Advani at the hospital on Saturday to enquire about his health. The development has drawn attention from political circles, given Advani’s long-standing contribution to Indian politics and the BJP’s growth as a major national political force.
Advani served as India’s Deputy Prime Minister from 2002 to 2004 under the government led by former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. He also held the portfolio of Union Home Minister and served as BJP president on multiple occasions.
His 1990 Ram Rath Yatra became a defining episode in Indian politics and played a significant role in expanding the BJP’s political influence across the country.
In recognition of his decades of public service, Advani was awarded the Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian honour, in 2024.
Advani was previously hospitalised in May 2026 for age-related health complications. Further updates regarding his recovery are awaited, while doctors continue to monitor his condition.
